Alright, so you just got a beautiful, new bowling backpack and you’re ready to play. But what do you put in your backpack?
Shoes and a bowling ball are obvious, but what are some items that bowlers keep on hand to remain competitive? Just searching for bowling accessories doesn’t help, as your options are simply overwhelming.
This is where we, at I AM Bowling, excel. With almost 30 years of experience in the bowling industry — and a lifetime passion for the sport — we narrowed down the list to 3 essential items every bowler should carry.
What 3 Items Must You Always Have in Your Bowling Backpack?
Your bowling backpack is a convenient way to ensure that you are always properly equipped on the lanes. So, what are 3 items are essential for any bowler’s backpack?
- Bowling Grip Tape
- Microfiber Bowling Towel
- Bowling Ball Cleaning Spray
1. Bowling Grip Tape
Bowler’s tape improves your grip on the bowling ball by filling the empty space between your fingers and the holes of the ball. It’s advisable to keep this on hand in case swelling or shrinking occurs during a game or tournament.
This might sound alarming, but it’s normal. Prolonged play, a cold environment, and a million other factors can affect your hands.
Don’t lose your grip, and don’t be forced to choose an unfamiliar bowling ball; bring bowling tape with you instead. And remember to bring bowling scissors so you don’t have to use your teeth!
2. Microfiber Bowling Towel
As you play, sweat, oils, dirt, and debris collects on your bowling ball. Left unattended, this can impact the path of your ball.
Professional and regular bowlers know to wipe their balls down often. A microfiber towel is perfect for this, and you can always bring an extra to wipe off your face.
3. Bowling Ball Cleaning Spray
As we mentioned, it’s vital that you keep your ball clean after play. A good bowling ball cleaning spray breaks can remove oil, dirt, and even belt marks from your ball.
Be sure to find a spray that is suitable for your bowling ball. Cleaning sprays should be safe for use on all 4 common coverstocks used to make bowling balls (particle/proactive, plastic, reactive resin, and urethane).
4. Honorable Mentions
These are just the 3 items that we think are the most essential for any bowler. However, there are plenty of other bowling accessories that can boost your game.
Bring nail clippers and a nail file to ensure your never surprised by chipping, breakage, or other nail issues. Carry a wrist support device in case your hand or wrist begins to feel the stress of the game.
